Mitchell Leitman

An adopted Ottawan, Mitch Leitman has practised in the Nation’s Capital for fifteen years, following his early years in Toronto. Mitch’s practice concentrates on real estate (both commercial and residential), corporate, commercial and financing transactions, leasing and trust and estate planning. He advises and assists his clients on all types of real estate and commercial transactions including the purchase, sale and financing of commercial and residential properties, land development and commercial leasing as well as the purchase and sale of businesses through the acquisition and/or disposition of assets or shares. Mitch also acts on behalf of borrowers and lenders in connection with all aspects of debt financing transactions.

Lynn LeMesurier Planning Committee Co-Chair

Lynn Le Mesurier, Vice & Hunter LLP & Planning Committee Member Lynn articled with Vice & Hunter and was called to the Bar in 1995. Lynn subsequently formed her own partnership where she practiced in the areas of real estate, corporate and estate law. In July 2000, Lynn returned to Vice & Hunter to practice in the areas of residential and commercial real estate, wills and estate administration. Lynn was an instructor in the real estate section of the Bar Admission Course for several years and is a long standing member of the County of Carleton Law Association and its East Region Solicitors Conference Planning Committee.

JP McAvoy

Jeffrey (JP) McAvoy practices corporate and commercial law. He assists his clients with a wide range oftransactions including financings and acquisitions, re-organizations, and corporate entity structuring matters. He acts for clients buying and selling businesses and represents a diverse range of corporations in Canada, the United States, and Eastern Asia. J.P. also teaches Corporate Law at Algonquin College and works with financial, insurance, and accounting advisers to provide tax, trust and estate planning advice to entrepreneurial clients and professionals. Prior to commencing private practice, J.P. was a founding employee of Silicon Valley start-up Zip2, which was sold to Compaq and later merged with Alta Vista. He is a Contributing writer for the New Economy Watch and a founding member of the Ottawa Junior Chamber of Commerce. In 2011, J.P.’s accomplishments earned him a Ottawa Business Journal Forty Under Award.

Kayliah Miller

Jane Murray

Jane Murray is a partner at Burke-Robertson, practicing in the areas of family law and estates. She has a B.Sc. in Biology from the University of Waterloo and an LL.B. from the University of Ottawa. Jane articled with Burke-Robertson and has been with the firm since being called to the Bar in 1984. She is currently a member of the CCLA, the Family Law Rules Committee, and Legal Co-Chair for the LifeSaving Society of Canada. Jane has been a seminar leader at the Bar Admission Course for both family law and estates.

Laurie Sanderson

Laurie Sanderson is a partner in Gowlings' Ottawa office and head of the Firm's Real Estate National Practice Group. With more than 20 years of experience, Laurie is a recognized expert in the area of commercial leasing. She represents a wide variety of both private and public sector landlords and tenants. Laurie has extensive experience in both P3 and the design build process, in addition to the unique requirements of Crown Corporations. She is also well positioned to give strategic advice in insolvency proceedings. Laurie takes a practical results oriented approach to all matters. Her clients can count on a level of service that is matched only by her expertise. She is passionate about her work and committed to delivering strategic results. David Stout

David received his LL.B. from the University of Ottawa in 1974. He was called to Ontario Bar in 1976, and was called to the Nunavut Bar in 2001. David Stout is a partner at Nelligan O’Brien Payne LLP, and leader of our Business Law Group. He has over thirty-five years’ experience providing legal services to organizations of every size. From not-for-profits to large international companies, David’s extensive experience includes incorporations, corporate re-organizations, and mergers and acquisitions. He has also acted as general corporate counsel for federal, provincial, and international organizations, including national and provincial not-for-profits. David regularly provides advice to clients on all aspects of corporate, business, and ancillary issues, including strategic planning, strategic alliances, and long-range policy issues that may affect business. His practice also includes wealth management and succession planning, bankruptcy and insolvency, IP Licensing and Enforcement and business issues related to intellectual property. In 1999, David was retained as lead counsel on behalf of the Office of the Interim Commissioner for the Territory of Nunavut. He negotiated the re-organization of the Northwest Territories Power Corporation and the Workers' Compensation Board of the Northwest Territories, following the division of the Northwest Territories into two new territories. David continues to practice within Nunavut, providing legal services and business advice to individuals, businesses operating within the Territory of Nunavut, and the Government of Nunavut. He finds the work he does in Nunavut endlessly rewarding, and is proud of what he has achieved there.

Carol Willes

Carol’s experience in the estate planning world started in 2008 when she joined a major Canadian trust company as a Senior Will & Estate Planner in Kingston, Ontario. Carol came from a combination of private practice in law and consulting for clients from China to the Netherlands in the areas of business structuring, succession planning and financing. She has taught both undergraduates and executives at the Queen’s University School of Business and Faculty of Law, in the fields of international business, law and ethics. Now as Director, Will & Estate Planning at BMO Wealth Management, Carol strives to provide meaningful, client-centered advice and solutions to help real people build their legacy and find peace of mind in the context of their entire wealth story.
