Michael Segal was called to the Bar in Ontario in 1976. From 1998 to 2005, he served as one of the instructors for the commercial law section of the Bar Admissions Course for the Law Society of Upper Canada in Ottawa. In October 2004, he received the Certified Specialist designation in Corporate and Commercial Law from the Law Society of Ontario. In 2010, Michael Segal completed the Mediation Program at Harvard University. Michael Segal has been actively involved in various legal associations and committees. He served as Chair of the Ottawa branch and was a member of the national board of directors of S.T.E.P. Canada. He also served as Chair of the Business Law Section of the Ontario Bar Association and is currently on the executive of both the Business Law Section and the Franchise Section of the OBA. Michael Segal sat as a member of the Ethics Committee of the Canadian Bar Association and also served as a member of the Anti-Corruption Committee of the Canadian Bar Association. He has presented papers and delivered lectures on different aspects of business law to various groups. In 2018 and 2019, he co-chaired the OBA Commercial Agreements Workshop. He also co-chaired the OBA Institute in 2021, a joint program between the Business, Family, and Trusts and Estates sections of the OBA. In addition to his legal pursuits, Michael Segal is active in the Coach and Advisor Program under the Law Society of Ontario. His legal practice is restricted to corporate, commercial, and franchise matters, as well as tax and estate planning and related issues. Outside the legal realm, Michael Segal has a passion for scuba diving and photography, taking pictures both above and below water.
