Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion: Professional Ethics & Mental Health

Professor Graham was appointed to Western’s Faculty of Law in 2002. In 2005 he was granted the title of “Faculty Scholar” in recognition of the international impact of his writing and research. He is the first Western Law professor to hold that title. Professor Graham has also won several teaching awards in recognition of his efforts in the classroom.

Professor Graham’s principal teaching and research interests include Statutory Interpretation and Legal Ethics. He has written three books and numerous articles on these topics. All three of his academic books have been adopted as mandatory reading at law schools across Canada, and have been cited by judges of every level of court, including the Supreme Court of Canada and the United States Supreme Court. Professor Graham’s writing has recently taken an odd turn: in 2017, his first novel, “Beforelife,” was published by ECW Press. Beforelife won the Independent Publisher Book Award (“IPPY”) Gold Medal for fantasy fiction, and was a top-10 finalist for the Leacock medal for humour.

Professor Graham holds the Goodmans LLP Faculty Fellowship in Legal Ethics.

In addition to serving on Western’s Faculty of Law, Dr. Graham has been an Assistant Professor at the University of New Brunswick (2000-2002), an Adjunct Professor at Osgoode Hall Law School (1996-2005), an Affiliated Scholar with Goodmans LLP (1998-2000); a commercial lawyer at Goodmans LLP (1997-1998); a Law Clerk to Mr. Justice Sopinka of the Supreme Court of Canada (1995-1996); and an Editorial Assistant to Justice Sopinka in connection with "The Law of Evidence in Canada" (1996-1997). Dr. Graham continues to act as a litigation strategist and technical consultant in matters dealing with his primary research areas.
