Karly Church, a survivor of domestic sex trafficking and Human Trafficking Coordinator and Community Engagement Manager at Victim Services of Durham Region, shares her own story to explain how trafficking unfolds. She challenges misconceptions about who traffickers are and whether exploitation requires kidnapping, physical violence or confinement. The presentation traces luring, grooming, coercion, exploitation and recruitment, including the manipulation and pressures that can keep someone under a trafficker’s control. Church also examines why women who have been trafficked may become recruiters.
