Carmen Francis

Carmen just joined Dentons Canada, and is an Associate in the Employment and Labour Group. She received her Juris Doctor (J.D.), International Law in 2011 from the University of Ottawa. Carmen articled at the firm of Heenan Blaikie. She was called to the Bar in 2011.

Tina Garbas-Tyrell

Tina Garbas-Tyrrell’s practice consists of family law and wills and estates law. She obtained her J.D. from Queen’s University in 2008. Tina articled with Burke-Robertson and has been with the firm since being called to the bar in 2009. In addition to practicing law, Tina is accredited to provide power imbalance screenings for family law arbitrations. She has also completed family law mediation training.

Jerry Hiscock

Jerry graduated from the University of Western Ontario (BA, 1974), and received his LLB from University of Ottawa in 1977. He has been in private practice since being called in 1979, and from 1983 with Richard Bradley under the name Bradley, Hiscock. Jerry is a member of the East Region Solicitors Conference Planning Committee.

Janet Kasun

Janet Kasun is a lawyer practicing in the Ottawa office of Borden Ladner Gervais LLP in the area of tax with a focus on commodity tax. Janet received her HBA in Business Administration from the University of Western Ontario and her designation as a CMA from the Society of Management Accountants of Manitoba. She then went on to complete her LLB from the University of Ottawa and was called to the Ontario Bar in 2001, receiving the Treasurer’s Medal as the top bar admission student in the province.

Eric Lay

Eric’s practice is focused on advising businesses on diverse business disputes, including construction, contract, shareholder, administrative, and employment matters. He also has extensive experience advising and assisting professionals with civil claims and regulatory proceedings. Eric attended law school at the University of Toronto. After his call to the Bar in 1998, he practiced commercial litigation in large Toronto and Ottawa firms for several years. He then had his own practice where he advised and assisted other lawyers with complex disputes and provided services to not-for-profit corporations. In addition to litigating commercial disputes, Eric teaches administrative law to graduate students in the Carleton University School of Public Policy and Administration. Eric is equally comfortable in the courtroom and the kitchen, and he is kept busy at home devising new ways to feed his hungry family of three boys.

Ray Leclair

Ray Leclair

Ray Leclair joined Lawyers’ Professional Indemnity Company (LawPRO) in June of 2008 in the role of Vice President, TitlePLUS, and as of May, 2012 became Vice President, Public Affairs, responsible for government relations efforts at LawPRO.

Formerly General Counsel for the Kanata Research Park Corporation, a development company and major commercial landlord in Ottawa, Ray has practised in both major national law firms and as a sole practitioner, and was a part-time professor at the University of Ottawa Law School and Cité Collégiale instructing the French language portion of the real estate law course. He also served for 15 years as the Ottawa senior instructor for the French and English Real Estate Sections of the Bar Admission Course and member of the Law Society of Upper Canada’s Solicitor Advisory Group, Licensing Process.

Called to the bar in 1984, Ray is Past-Chair and remains an active participant of both the National Real Property Section of the Canadian Bar Association and of the Real Property Section of the Ontario Bar Association, past Co-Chair and remains a member of the Working Group on Lawyers & Real Estate, and President of the Ontario Real Estate Lawyers Association (ORELA).  Former member of the Ontario Bar Association Council, past executive member of CBA’s National Sections Council, past member of its budget committee and formerly Vice President of the North American Bar-related® Title Insurers, past President of the Advisory Committee for the Cité Collégiale Legal Assistants Program. Ray volunteered as Manager of the fundraiser TOM* MensFashion4Hope and a VIP & Sponsor Relations Officer for semi-annual Toronto Men’s Fashion Week (TOM*). Ray is and has been a frequent speaker/presenter, in French or English, in numerous programs on various real estate and other law related topics in Canada and the United States.

Barb Lippett

Ms. Lippett is the founder of B. F. Lippett Professional Corporation, a corporate commercial law firm based in Ottawa, Ontario. Her practice focuses on corporate commercial transactions, public procurement, and complex strategic partnership arrangements within the information technology, government, healthcare, and financial services sectors. She represents a wide range of clients, including publically and privately held knowledge-based companies, government entities, Canadian Crown corporations, Canadian banks, and Fortune 500 multi-national corporations.
