Prior to pursuing her law degree, Kate worked as an assistant to the Federal Minister of Finance who encouraged her to pursue a career in law. Kate articled with Kelly Santini LLP, before being called to the Bar of Ontario in 2017 and joining the firm as an associate, practicing in the fields of Corporate Law, Real Estate, and Wills and Estates
Anders and his co-counsel Gurvir Sangha won Best Factum in the 2017 Nelligan O’Brien Payne Moot Court Competition. Originally from British Columbia, Anders moved to Ottawa to attend law school at the University of Ottawa. He hopes to settle and eventually work in Ottawa as a lawyer. The first-year moot sparked Anders’ interest in oral advocacy and he seeks to refine his skills through uOttawa Law’s moot program. Along this line, he will participate in a two-week intensive “moot boot camp” in May. When he is not working on projects for school, Anders enjoys attending meetings with the Ottawa Toastmasters Club, running along the Rideau Canal, and spending time with his friends.
Kim Patenaude graduated from the French Common Law Program of the University of Ottawa. She is fluently bilingual, providing legal services in French and English in the areas of employment law, labour law, and human rights law. Kim provides practical advice and representation to individual clients on issues such as wrongful dismissal, constructive dismissal, severance packages, employment contracts, long term disability benefit claims, WSIB/Workers’ compensation, discrimination, harassment, and accommodation. Kim has acted in matters before federal and provincial courts, boards, tribunals, and arbitrators on behalf of public and private sector unions, and individual employees.
Alessia Petricone-Westwood is an associate at Nelligan O’Brien Payne LLP. Alessia graduated magna cum laude from the University of Ottawa Faculty of Law in 2014. She joined Nelligan O’Brien Payne LLP as an articling student in 2014 prior to her call to the Ontario Bar in 2015. Alessia’s areas of practice include plaintiff’s personal injury, insurance defence litigation, including professional liability and motor vehicle liability, and estate litigation.
Kathleen Robichaud is a sole practitioner practicing in Manotick, Ontario. She has a business degree from the University of Ottawa obtained in 1994. She earned her law degree at Queens University, graduating in 1997. She articled at Perley-Robertson Hill & McDougall in Ottawa. She was called to the Ontario bar in 1999 and is a Lawyer member of the Law Society of Upper Canada. Shortly after articling, Kathleen moved to Toronto and practiced there until returning to the Ottawa area and settling in Manotick in July of 2010. She has worked primarily as a sole practitioner throughout her years of practice. Kathleen is a member of the County of Carleton Law Association. She is co-chair of the organizing Committee for the East Region Solicitors Conference. She is also Past-Chair of the Sole, Small and General Practice Section of the Ontario Bar Association (OBA) and Past-Chair of the Pro Bono Sub Committee of the OBA. She is the Vice-Chair for the for the Solo, Small Firm and General Practice forum of the Canadian Bar Association (CBA) and an East Region Representative of Council for the OBA. Kathleen has been a member of the Discipline Committee of the Professional Engineers of Ontario since 2013 and presides over professional conduct hearings as part of panel of adjudicators. Kathleen’s practice includes Corporate Law, Real Estate including development work and Wills and Estates.
Stephanie Ruta is the founder of SR Law Office. She is a graduate of the University of Ottawa and was called to the Bar in 2005. Her practice focuses on corporate and commercial law and residential and commercial real estate. Stephanie acts for corporations requiring assistance with incorporation and organization, as well as those engaged in the purchase or sale of a business. She also works with franchisors and franchisees to set up, buy and sell their franchise businesses, and advises them on franchise law requirements in Ontario. Stephanie is a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada and the Canadian Bar Association. She is past honourary legal counsel and board member of the Dave Smith Youth Treatment Centre, and a past member, secretary and director of the Rotary Club of Ottawa South.
Gurvir and his co-counsel Anders Hoenisch received Best Factum honours in the 2017 Nelligan O’Brien Payne Moot Court Competition at the University of Ottawa. Raised in Vancouver, Gurvir worked in student affairs prior to starting his JD in September 2017. The Nelligan Moot and first year of law school have nurtured his interest in legal research and the areas of commercial and public law. Gurvir is currently in training at a community legal clinic in Vancouver and unfortunately could not attend the conference this year. He thanks the CCLA and its members for the invitation and their support of the JD program at the University of Ottawa.
Diana joined Mann Lawyers LLP in 2018 and practices in the areas of wills and estate planning and administration as well as residential and commercial real estate. Originally from Barrie, Ontario, Diana completed her Bachelor of Arts (Honours) at McMaster University in psychology and went on to complete two law degrees at the University of Windsor and the University of Detroit Mercy, School of Law. Diana was called to the bar in 2014, and prior to joining Mann Lawyers she articled and practiced in Hamilton, Ontario. During her schooling, she participated in various extra-circulars activities and was a member of both McMaster University and Windsor University’s Women’s Varsity Soccer teams. In addition to practicing law, Diana enjoys the outdoors, is an avid baker and travels any chance she gets.
