In 1986, he left Manotick to obtain his Bachelor of Arts with Honours in History at McGill University, which he did in 1989. In 1992, he skipped town from his Master of Arts program at Carleton University to go to the University of Alberta Law School, where he obtained his Bachelor of Laws in 1995. After articling at a mid-sized firm in Edmonton and being called to the Bar in Alberta in 1996, he moved to Calgary where he worked as one of the many lawyers defending the Government of Alberta in the Alberta Sexual Sterilization Case from 1996 to 1997. In 1997 he returned to Ontario, having become disillusioned with the practice of law in the Big City Firms, wrote his Transfer Exams during the Great Ice Storm of 1998, and began practice with Duncan C. Fraser, QC and Gregory O. Best in Brockville in 1998. In 2002, he and Duncan Fraser started their own firm, and Angus has been a sole practitioner under the name of Fraser & Bickerton since 2005. His practice areas include Real Estate, Family Law, Mediation, Wills and Estates, and Civil Litigation, and he will be starting his Master of Laws in Alternative Dispute Resolution at Osgoode Hall in the fall of 2014. Is his spare time, Angus is actively involved as a Scouter with Scouts Canada in the Brockville area, working with children in Cub Scouts and Scouts, camping, singing worship music with his Church, many trades of home improvement, and collecting and restoring Coleman lanterns and stoves. Angus lives in Brockville with his wife Lise and their children, Erin (13) and Duncan (9) and their Norfolk Terrier, Guiness, and Erin’s Shih-Tzu cross, Stella. The naming of the dogs did not intentionally evoke Angus’s fondness for beers and ales from around the world, but it works. If the trend continues, his next dog will likely be named after a good single malt.
