Özlem Eskicioğlu

Özlem graduated from the University of Ottawa’s Common Law Program in 2011 and was called to the Ontario Bar in 2012. She has been practicing family law with ALT Divorce Sicotte Guilbault since January 2016. Özlem brings an eclectic education and experience to the family legal practice, having completed a commerce degree, engaged in two years of privacy law research and writing, provided legal advocacy for minority communities in Washington, D.C., articled at a boutique insurance defense law firm in Ottawa, and ran a sole family practice for nearly three years. Outside of work, Özlem enjoys remaining active in her community and taking on different opportunities. This has included mentoring Aboriginal youth, holding the 2014-2015 Presidential seat of the Turkish Canadian Cultural Association, and serving on the Executive Committee of the Ontario Bar Association's Young Lawyers Division. Among her more interesting endeavours was the opportunity to act as Deputy Managing Director and General Consultant for two start-up companies based in London, England. Özlem has also participated in various speaking engagements over the years, including presenting at several law conferences and lecturing on Turkish women's issues at Carleton University. Özlem is happy to provide legal services in both the English and Turkish languages.

Jennifer Johnston

Jenny Johnston practices family law at Burke-Robertson. She obtained her LL.B. from Dalhousie University. Jenny articled with Burke-Robertson and has been with the firm since being called to the bar in 2012.

Merredith MacLennan

Merredith MacLennan is a partner at Merovitz Potechin LLP in Ottawa. She represents clients in all aspects of real estate transactions, including the purchase, sale or financing of land and the development of residential and commercial properties. Merredith MacLennan has extensive experience in shared property matters, including condominiums, joint use agreements, co-tenancy agreements, and easements, as well as title insurance and complex title matters, providing summaries, opinions, and resolutions to her clients and other lawyers. Merredith has been certified by the Law Society of Ontario as a specialist in real estate law. She is the chair of the County of Carleton (CCLA) Real Estate Lawyer’s Committee and member of the CCLA Solicitors Conference Planning Committee. She is a member of the provincial Working Group on Lawyers and Real Estate and the Law Society’s Real Estate Liaison Group. Merredith is a past Real Estate Co-Chair of the Federation of Ontario Law Associations. Merredith holds a B.A. from Dalhousie University, an LL.B. from the University of New Brunswick and an LL.M. from Osgoode Hall. She was called to the Bar in 1999.

John Melia

John was called to the Bar 2001 and received his in LLB (magna cum laude), from the University of Ottawa in 1999. John practises in the area of commercial litigation with a strong emphasis on all aspects of construction, procurement, real property, corporate and employment law. A partner in the Litigation Group in the Ottawa office of Borden Ladner Gervais LLP, John represents owners, developers, general contractors, subcontractors and surety bonding companies with respect to issues relating to all types of constructions disputes, including tendering and procurement matters, construction liens, breach of trust claims, delay and extras claims and deficiency claims.

Michael Polowin

Michael Polowin is a partner in Gowlings' Ottawa office, practising in the area of commercial real estate and municipal and planning law. He was called to the Bar in 1985. Michael has practised law in Ottawa since 1985 and prior to joining Gowlings in 2005 he was a partner with another major law firm where his practice focused on commercial real property and municipal and planning law. He has served a three-year term as a member of the Committee of Adjustment for the former City of Nepean. Michael taught in the School of Business at Carleton University from 1987 to 1991. He is a member of the Ottawa chapter of the Building Owners and Managers Association, where he also serves as a member of the Government Affairs Committee. Michael is active in the community, sitting on the Board of a number of charitable organizations and acting as a fundraiser for others. He is chair of the Board of Directors for Camp B'nai Brith of Ottawa.

David Reid

David is an associate with BrazeauSeller.LLP. His focus is primarily in Real Estate law, working on a variety of financing transactions as well as commercial and residential purchases and sales. David was called to the bar in 2012 after completing his law degree at the University of Ottawa. Prior to attending law school, David obtained an honours bachelor of commerce degree from McMaster University, and subsequently worked for a multi-national branding company as both a finance coordinator and a project manager. This will be David’s first Solicitors Conference and he is delighted at having been asked to participate.

Vladyslav Shelukhin

Vladyslav Shelukhin joined Soloway Wright in 2012 as a business lawyer in Kingston. As a member of our Business Law Group, Vlad represents clients in the purchase and sale of businesses, shareholder and partnership agreements, incorporations, and commercial leasing. Prior to coming to Canada and joining the Soloway Wright team, Vlad practiced law in the Ukraine for almost ten years. He was called to the Bar in 2012. He received his JD, from the University of Ottawa in 2011. He also received his Master of Laws and Bachelor of Laws, from the Ukrainian State Law Academy in 1994.
