Presenters

Dr. Brenda Saxe

Dr. Brenda Saxe is a Clinical Psychologist registered with the College of Psychologists of Ontario since 1994. She has been an Associate at the Centre for Treatment of Sexual Abuse and Childhood Trauma since its inception in 1991 and acted as the Clinical Director from 1996 to 2006. Dr. Saxe has taught for twelve years at Saint Paul University in the Marital/Couple Therapy program and acted as the Practicum Supervisor for students who worked with couples.

During the course of her practice, Dr. Saxe has worked with many diverse forms of trauma including sexual, physical, and emotional abuse in childhood, rape and physical violence in adulthood, war trauma, motor vehicle accidents, marital affairs, and death of a loved one, to name a few. Her primary work deals with individuals and couples who are dealing with trauma or any other psychological issue from a humanistic and relational perspective. She believes strongly that all individuals strive for health and wholeness through connection with others and that, as a therapist and human being, she can help facilitate this.

David Yazbeck

David Yazbeck, of Raven, Cameron, Ballantyne & Yazbeck LLP, practices as an advocate for unions, employees, and human rights complainants in the areas of labor relations, human rights, judicial review and appeals, and Charter litigation, with an emphasis on the federal public sector. He has developed a particular expertise in the area of employee free speech and whistle blowing, where he has argued many of the leading cases.

David regularly appears before arbitrators, labor boards, human rights tribunals, and Courts at all levels. He has substantial experience arguing judicial review applications and appeals in the Federal Court and the Federal Court of Appeal, and often acts as counsel or agent in the Supreme Court of Canada.

David has taught Public Sector Law to union activists at the Labor College of Canada both at the Residential Program and at the Canadian Labor Congress Ontario Region Winter School. He is often invited to speak at conferences on a variety of labor and human rights issues, particularly for disability rights organization Reach Canada. David is an avid music fan. He channels that passion into producing and hosting the second half of the Thursday Morning Special Blend radio program, which airs every Thursday at 8:00 am (work permitting) on CKCU – 93.1 FM. David is also one of the original writers for one of Canada’s best blogs dedicated to Canadian music: North by East West.  Finally, David acts as a Juror for FACTOR – the Foundation to Assist Canadian Talent On Record, which provides loans and grants to Canadian artists to produce recordings, videos, and tours.
