These nuts and bolts presentations are appropriate for all levels of counsel. Integral aspects of trial preparation and presentation will be covered by a faculty of leading trial lawyers including Farouk Jiwa, Mandeep Randhawa, Rory Lambert and Marlisa Martin. Aspects of both jury and non jury trials will be considered including direct examinations of lay witnesses, interpreters & experts, power point at trial, and post trial issues.

Presenters

Farouk Jiwa

Farouk Jiwa obtained his law degree, cum laude, from Seattle University in 2004 and was called to the Washington State Bar in 2005. He was called to the British Columbia Bar in 2006 and since then has exclusively practiced in plaintiff personal injury and specifically motor vehicle accident claims against ICBC insured's. Mr. Jiwa began his personal injury practice at Jefferey & Calder in 2006 and established Jiwa Law Corporation in the Summer of 2008. Since his call to the BC Bar, Mr. Jiwa has successfully represented several plaintiffs at trial in the Supreme Court of British Columbia.  He has been averaging three to four trials a year over the last few years and has dealt with his fair share of pre and post-trial issues. On the rare occasion he is away from his busy practice, Mr. Jiwa enjoys travel with his wife and three year old son.

WM. Rory Lambert

Rory Lambert graduated from the University of Alberta with a BSC in 1980, and from the University of Victoria Faculty of law in 1987. He became a member of the Alberta Bar in 1988 and the British Columbia bar in 1989. He joined the law firm of Dinning Hunter in 1989 and became of partner in 1992. Rory practices in the area of litigation, with a special interest in personal injury and complex litigation matters. Rory is an active member of the Trial Lawyers Association of BC and became a member of the Board of Governors in 2013. He hopes to continue to support Tlabc by continuing as a Board member in the future.

Marlisa Martin

Marlisa Martin graduated from Queen’s University with a BSc in 2006 and from the University of Victoria Faculty of Law in 2009. She joined the firm of Dinning Hunter Lambert & Jackson as an articled student and practices in the area of litigation with a focus on personal injury. She has worked closely with Rory Lambert and together they have been successful in tripling the defence formal offers in their last three trials ; 2 jury and one judge alone. All three of those cases were appealed so she is fast becoming a seasoned appellate counsel. She and Rory were successful in defending the  appeal with respect to Moore v. Kyba and are set to appear in front of the Court of Appeal in November with respect to Chester v. Campbell.

Mandeep S. Randhawa

Mandeep Randhawa is Partner in the firm Hammerberg Lawyers LLP. He practices personal injury law and has predominantly in this area since his call to the Bar in 1999. His background in the biological sciences gives him a unique advantage in understanding, managing and advancing personal injury claims. He looks to provide his clients with personal attention, and to deliver practical and cost-effective solutions to their legal problems. He addresses not only the legal issues but any other related issues involved in each case.

His fluency in Hindi, Punjabi and Urdu gives him the ability to communicate, understand, appreciate and address the unique needs of his clients in languages other than English.
