Michael Crystal

Michael Crystal currently spends his time providing strategic advice on privacy and data breaches to government and industry. He is also involved with both federal and provincial governments on issues of policy and legislative drafting. Michael Crystal currently heads up the class action group at Spiteri & Ursulak LLP. Michael Crystal articled with the Atlantic law firm Stewart McKelvey Stirling Scales and was called to the Newfoundland the bar in 1992 and the Ontario bar in 1996. He then worked as a public defender for the Newfoundland Legal Aid Commission from 1991 to 1995. Since then he has worked for Borden Ladner Gervais, Gowlings Lafleur Henderson and Pinkofsky Lockyer before starting his own firm Crystal & Associates in 2001. In 2015, Mr. Crystal joined Spiteri & Ursulak as a partner to lead their privacy, regulatory and class action team. Mr. Crystal has worked primarily in the area of criminal law and has appeared at all levels of trial and appellate courts in Ontario, including the three appearances as lead counsel before the Supreme Court of Canada. More recently, Mr. Crystal has developed a privacy practice. He has been retained by industry and the Senate to testify before the Canadian Senate committees on Human Rights, Industry and is currently scheduled to testify before the National Security committee relating to issues of privacy. Mr. Crystal is currently class counsel in five personal health information class actions. Most recently, he appeared as co-counsel before the Ontario Court of Appeal in Hopkins v. Kay ; a precedent setting case relating to the interplay between provincial personal health information legislation and the common law. Finally, Mr. Crystal is currently speaking and giving papers to lawyers and industry players on Data breaches cyber security.

Allan Hirsch

Allan obtained his common law degree from the University of Ottawa in 1989 and his Quebec Civil law degree in 1990. He was called to the Ontario bar in 1992. After running a general practice as an associate in a national law firm, he became a sole practitioner in 1995 and has been doing family law ever since. He has been a member of the legal panel of the Family Responsibility Office since 1999 and of the Central Authority for Hague Convention matters since 2007. He has represented the Director of the FRO on the Community Liaison and Resources Committee since 2014. He has presented papers at the 2001 and 2006 Institutes of Family Law.

Alf Mamo

Alf Mamo was called to the Ontario Bar in1972, and received his Bachelor of Laws, from Western University in 1970. He is the author of Carswells Annual Review of Family Law and the Editor of Matrimonial Property Law in Canada. Alf has written many articles in family law publications: the library of the Law Society of Upper Canada has 52 works listed in their catalogue. He is a frequent speaker at family law conferences including those organized by the Law Society of Canada, the Canadian Bar Association, the National Judicial Institute, the Ontario Conference of Judges, the Federation of Law Societies, the Association of Family Conciliation Courts and the Ontario Advocates' Society. Alf has served as senior instructor and associate head of family law section of the Ontario Bar Admission Course, Family Law Section (1975-2005). He is a frequent lecturer at various law schools in Ontario. Alf was lead author of a report commissioned by the Attorney General of Ontario on the Family Law Courts entitled Recapturing and Renewing the Vision of the Family Court (2007). He is a long time member of the Province of Ontario's Family Law Rules Committee. He is former advisor to the provincial Attorney General on family law matters. Alf has received the Ontario Bar Association Annual Award for Excellence in Family Law and the Law Society Medal for significant contribution to the profession. He is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers; a Fellow of the International Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers; certified by the Law Society as a Specialist in family law; and designated as a leading practitioner of family law by the Canadian Legal Lexpert Director.

Tanya Parker Wallace

Tanya is an associate at Galarneau & Associates Professional Corporation, practicing exclusively in family law since her call to the Bar of Ontario in 2004. She is an experienced litigator who represents parties in contested family law matters, and parents in child protection applications. In addition to assisting with family law matters before the Court, Tanya also supports her clients outside of court, representing them at mediations and in collaborative matters. The negotiation and preparation of domestic contracts, including separation agreements, cohabitation agreements and marriage contracts, is a large focus of her practice. Her strong work ethic and focus on achieving practical solutions for her credits make her a valued advocate. Tanya received a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree from York University in 2000 and her law degree from the University of Ottawa in 2003. After working with local Ottawa law firms in private practice and completing a brief in-house term as Legal Counsel with the Children’s Aid Society of Ottawa, she joined Galarneau & Associates in October, 2011. Tanya is a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada, the Ontario Bar Association, the County of Carleton Law Association and the Ontario Association for Family Mediation. She is in the process of becoming accredited as a Family Law Mediator and Collaborative Family Law Practitioner.

Hunter Phillips

Hunter has been an associate with MacKinnon & Phillips, Ottawa since being called to the bar in 1975, having received his L.L.B from Osgoode Hall Law School in 1973. His practice is restricted to family law and he has been certified as a Specialist in Family Law by the Law Society of Upper Canada since 1990. He was the senior instructor in family law for the Bar Admission Course, Ottawa from 1987 to 2000, has been on the organizing committee for the Family Law Institute in Ottawa for 20 years and has been a frequent speaker at programs organized by the Law Society of Upper Canada, the Canadian Bar Association, the Carleton County Law Association and the Advocates’ Society.

Stephanie White

Stephanie is an Associate at Warren Camacho LLP, specializing in family law and commercial litigation. Prior to joining Warren Camacho LLP in 2013, Stephanie practiced in both areas at a national firm in Ottawa. Stephanie obtained a J.D. from the University of Toronto in 2008 and a B.A.(Hons.) with Distinction in Political Studies and French Literature from Queen’s University in 2005. She was called to the Bar in 2009. Stephanie represents and advises clients on a broad range of family law matters including divorce, custody and access, child support, spousal support, division of property, and domestic contracts. Her commercial litigation practice focuses on providing legal advice to national and multinational corporations on insurance matters and general contractual disputes. She regularly appears before the Ontario Superior Court of Justice and assists clients at mediation. Stephanie is a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada, the Ontario Bar Association, and the County of Carleton Law Association.
