Oliver has provided legal advice to the Senate of Canada, and his clients have included doctors, pharmacists, high-tech executives, diplomats, and federal-government employees. Oliver is the managing partner of Abergel Goldstein & Partners LLP, and a founding member of the firm (formerly Webber Schroeder Goldstein Abergel). He is, however, a terrible golfer. Oliver graduated from McGill University, and trained under one of Toronto’s foremost criminal lawyers before moving his practice to Ottawa. Oliver is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in criminal law through Osgoode Hall Law School in Toronto. He is a member of the bar of Ontario and of the State of New York.
Michael has been practicing criminal law, both trials and appeals, since his call to the bar in 1995. Michael is a leading lawyer on mental health law. He regularly appears before the Ontario Review Board and the Consent and Capacity Board. He is frequently appointed as amicus curiae (friend of the court) by the Ontario Court of Appeal in cases involving individuals with mental disorders. Michael graduated from the University of Western Ontario Law School in 1993. He subsequently earned an LL.M. from Queen’s University Law School focusing on remedies to Charter violations in criminal cases. Prior to entering law school he earned a Ph.D. in Neuroscience from the University of Wales. Michael has been an Ottawa Area Director for the Ontario Criminal Lawyers’ Association. He has taught at Carleton University and has previously taught at the law, medical and nursing schools of Ottawa University.
Dr. Michelle Mathias has been the post-graduate Site Education Director at the Royal. In the role she is on the core RTC and is the primary liaison between the RTC, residents at the Royal and staff. Dr. Mathias has a great track-record of academic involvement. She completed her BSc at UBC and has an MA in sport psychology at U of O. She continued on at uOttawa completing her MD, psychiatry residency and completed her forensic psychiatry sub-specialty training in September 2013.
