Mr. Ertel is a Past President of the Defense Counsel Association of Ottawa. He has been at Bayne Sellar Ertel Carter since he began his articles in 1990. He was called to the bar in 1992 and has been a criminal defense lawyer ever since. In 1999, he became a partner in the firm. He is certified by the Law Society of Upper Canada as a specialist in criminal law. Mark has lectured on criminal law at the Bar Admission Course and Continuing Education programs of the Law Society of Upper Canada. He was the co-chair of the annual Defence Counsel Association fall conferences at the Chateau Montebello from 2006 to 2009. He has lectured law students at the University of Ottawa and criminology students at Carleton University. Mr. Ertel has also participated in education programs for young lawyers and Judges of the East Region. He retired from the position of President of the Defence Counsel Association of Ottawa in 2009 after serving two terms.
Dominic Lamb is a partner at the firm. He was called to the Ontario Bar in 2001. He received his LL.B. from the University of Ottawa in 1999 and his B.A. (Hons.) from Brock University in 1996. In 2003, Mr. Lamb started his own criminal defence practice. He joined Edelson & Friedman LLP in 2009. Dominic is accredited as a Certified Specialist (criminal law) by the Law Society of Upper Canada. He is actively involved with the local bar and currently serves as the President of the Defence Counsel Association of Ottawa. He has lectured on criminal law topics at the University of Ottawa Law School, at Carleton University and for visiting foreign jurists. He has been a member of the planning committee for the DCAO/CCLA Criminal Law Conference for many years, organizing and presenting at that conference. He is also involved in the planning and presentation of the ongoing DCAO 5 O’clock Lecture Series and regularly hosts the DCAO presentation of LSO continuing legal education programs for the local criminal defence bar. Dominic is also one of three lawyers behind the firm's Affordable Defence initiative.
Justice Jean Legault was called to the Bar in 1990. He worked as a barrister for Addelman, Edelson & Meagher and was also managing partner and a barrister with Meagher & Legault before becoming a sole practitioner and part-time contract associate with Burke-Robertson LLP in 2001. His practice was focused on criminal and administrative law as well as civil and estate litigation in both official languages. Justice Legault was also a per diem assistant Crown attorney for L'Orignal, Cornwall, Barrie and Lindsay. He has represented clients at all levels of court in Ontario. He has been a member of the Ontario Legal Aid Committee in Ottawa and has served as criminal review counsel with the University of Ottawa Community Legal Clinic. He has been a member of the L'Association des juristes d'expression française de l'Ontario, the County of Carleton Law Association and the Defence Counsel Association of Ottawa since 1990. Justice Legault has lectured on evidence, search and seizure for the federal law enforcement officers' investigative course and taught French common law at the University of Ottawa. Through his involvement with the Ontario Justice Education Network, he has helped high school students and teachers learn more about the justice system. Justice Legault was appointed to the Bench in October 2009.
