How does planning need to change in order to consider digital assets? Do today’s estate plans fall short? This session looks at current estate planning practice, defines what is considered a digital asset, highlights what may be missing, and shows how best to adapt to include digital assets.

Dave Madan, Market Lead at Scotia Wealth Management – Scotiatrust, and member of STEP Global’s Digital Asset Special Interest Group’s Steering Committee, discusses digital assets in estate planning and examines what can happen if those assets are not included.

Dave Madan

As a leader in Estate and Trust services, Dave brings extensive experience from the world of wealth management, as well as previous experience from working in tech.  

Dave has worked in the financial industry since 2004, and holds his MBA degree. He is a Certified Financial Planner Professional (CFP®), a Chartered Investment Manager (CIM®), a Personal Financial Planner (PFP®), a Trust and Estate Practitioner (TEP), and a Fellow of the Canadian Securities Institute (FCSI®).  

Previous to his career in financial services, Dave’s work with Microsoft and Dell consisted of supporting large organizations deploy computer hardware and software in production environments, as well as coding in several different programming languages. Today, he is involved in many different emerging blockchain projects including mining and trading cryptocurrencies.
