Mary Damianakis

Mary Damianakis is the President of Family Mediation Canada (FMC), M.S.W., Certified Family Mediator with FMC and with International Mediation Institute (IMI). Devoted to labour, work, culture, and child abduction mediation - the theme of caring for children and families continues to be a constant in the evolution of Mary’s work.  With this desire at the core, she hopes to continue to meet the growing and complex needs of international family conflicts.

She has been mediating disputes in a variety of areas and in a number of different countries for over twenty four years. She became exposed to the significance of the Hague Convention Treaties while residing in Liechtenstein. This experience contributed to her interest in cross-border negotiations and mediation more than twenty years ago.

Mary began mediating union disputes in 1985 and has since expanded her practice. Currently she focuses on workplace disputes, family mediation, banking disputes, religious divorces, cultural conflicts and international family conflicts.

Mary has worked and lived in a number of different countries therefore she has developed a deep understanding of, and ability to manage, the subtleties, underlying needs and cultural values that can play out in international and other disputes.

Doreen Kahale

Doreen Kahale is an independent Consultant with The ADR Centre (Canada) Inc in association with Ernest G. Tannis. Doreen is also the Principal in Global ADR Strategies Inc. She is a Lifestyle Mentor-Coach, ADR advocate, Transforming Communities Volunteer and writer. Doreen retired from the Federal public service in 2007.

Ernest Tannis

Ernest G. Tannis (Ernie) is an internationally-renowned Canadian author, family lawyer, speaker and pioneer in the field of mediation and negotiation. His books are foundational pieces on alternative dispute resolution (ADR). Ernest G. Tannis has 35 years of experience in family law, as well as mediation and negotiation strategies. He offers highly-creative options and solutions in problem solving for individuals and organizations. Also known as Ernie-the-Attorney, he is affectionately referred to in the Canadian Bar Association as, “the godfather of ADR”. During 35 years of mediation he has often demonstrated how cultural awareness, in applying mediation principles, can have practical benefits in relationships, even in tragic and violent circumstances.

Mr. Tannis currently serves as Counsel for Francis & Francis LLP and his areas of practice as a solicitor include: Family Law, Business Law, Corporate Law, Charities Law and Civil Litigation. He also offers his services to the public as a Mediator. He has vast experience with all types of mediations, arbitrations and various other kinds of alternative dispute resolutions. He is the author of "Alternative Dispute Resolution That Works", first published in 1989 and “Is Everyone at the Table: 18 Life Lessons in Problem Solving”, published in 2011. He is on the approved list of Court-Connected Mediators in the City of Ottawa. He received the designation of Chartered Mediator (C. Med.) from the ADR Institute of Canada in 1996.
