Allison Klymyshyn

At Cavanagh LLP, Allison Klymyshyn practises primarily in the areas of insurance defence, personal injury and commercial disputes. She has extensive experience as counsel in motor vehicle claims and has lectured on motor vehicle insurance law at the University of Ottawa law school. In 2000, Allison completed her legal studies at the University of Saskatchewan and soon moved to Ottawa. She was called to the Bar in 2002. Allison has worked at a well-known Ottawa law firm for the last several years, where her insurance practise included bodily injury, property damage and coverage cases. Allison has also represented clients in numerous property claims involving building deficiencies and environmental damage. She has a special interest in claims emerging from the developing alternative energy industry. When she’s not working, Allison enjoys music, sailing and reading, often all at the same time.

Tracy Lyle

Tracy is currently a partner at Nelligan O’Brien Payne, and Team Leader for the Litigation Practice Group. She practices in the field of civil litigation with a particular emphasis on plaintiffs personal injury and insurance disputes. Prior to joining Nelligans, she practiced law in Pembroke for twenty years. She graduated from Queens university in 1992 with a B.A. and earned her LLB Summa Cum Laude as the Silver Medalist of her class in 1995 at the University of Ottawa. In 2000, she was appointed by the Law Society to sit as a Committee member on the Chief Justice of Ontario’s Advisory Committee on Professionalism and Civility. She has served as President of the Renfrew County Law Association, Deputy Judge of the Small Claims Court, member of the Editorial Board of the Litigator, as well as other boards. She is a proud mother of three boys.

RSJ James McNamara

Justice James McNamara was appointed Regional Senior Judge of the East Region, to replace Justice Hackland, who resigned as Regional Senior Judge effective May 8, 2014. Justice McNamara was appointed a judge in 2008. He served as Administrative Judge in Pembroke and is currently serving as local Administrative Judge in Ottawa. Justice McNamara received a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Ottawa in 1973 and was called to the Bar of Ontario in 1975. He practised with Marcus, McNamara and Wilson until the time of his appointment. He was certified as a Civil Litigation Specialist by the Law Society of Upper Canada in 1991.

Justice G. Patrick Smith

Justice Smith was appointed to the Superior Court of Ontario (Thunder Bay, Ontario) in October 2001, and he transferred to Ottawa in 2013. He has extensive experience in criminal and complex civil litigation with a special interest in alternate dispute resolution and mediation. Justice Smith has been extensively involved for several years in the education of lawyers and judges, is a member of the Superior Court of Ontario Judicial Education Committee, a faculty member of the National Judicial Institute and past instructor at the Ontario Bar Admission Programme.

Susanne Sviergula

Susanne Sviergula is a partner at Cavanagh LLP whose practice is focused on professional liability, insurance defence and employment law, acting for both institutional and individual clients. A graduate of both the University of Ottawa and the University of Windsor, she was called to the bar in 2001. Susanne has been an active member of the County of Carleton Law Association, the Advocates’ Society and the Ontario Bar Association throughout her career. She is also a regular volunteer at Law Help Ontario. One of her proudest accomplishments however is having run both the 2016 and 2017 Boston Marathon (with a not so secret desire of making it a hat trick in the future).

Laurie Tucker

Laurie obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree (Honours History) from the University of Waterloo in 1996 and her Law degree from Queen’s University in 1999 and was called to the Bar in 2001. Laurie practices exclusively in personal injury and long term disability claims with Burn Tucker Lachaîne in Ottawa. Laurie served a long time on the Board of Directors for the Ontario Trial Lawyers Association (OTLA), from May 2004 to May 2016. An avid proponent of continuing legal education, Laurie has presented papers at OTLA’s continuing legal education conferences and has published papers in The Litigator. In addition to her work with OTLA, Laurie has presented at the County of Carleton Law Association’s Litigation Conference and has been on their planning committee since 2013. Laurie has done work for the Advocates Society’s Child Advocacy Project and the Refugee Sponsorship Support Program’s pro bono project. From 2010 to 2015, Laurie was a member of the Board of Directors for the Youville Centre, an Ottawa non-profit organization which assists young mothers and their children by providing education and daycare in a specialized setting, allowing the young moms to complete high school. In 2010, Laurie was awarded the CCLA’s Regional Senior Justice Award. In 2013, she was the recipient of OTLA’s Women’s Caucus Award, and in 2016, she received OTLA’s Distinguished Service Award. In her personal life, Laurie enjoys spending time with friends and her dogs. She loves live theatre and she travels as often as she possibly can.
