The Hon. Marion Allan

I graduated from UBC with a BA in 1967.  I received an MA in International Relations from the University of Alberta in 1970 and an LLB from UBC in 1977.  I was called to the Bar of British Columbia in July 1978.  I articled and then practiced civil litigation for 10 years at Russell and DuMoulin (now Fasken Martineau).  I was an adjunct professor of civil procedure at UBC Law School between 1984 and 1988.

In September 1988, I was appointed to the County Court of Vancouver and elevated to the Supreme Court of British Columbia in 1990.  I was also appointed  a Deputy Judge of the Supreme Court of the Yukon Territory in 1990.

I elected supernumerary status in August 2007 and retired from the Court on April 2, 2012.  I received the TLABC  “Judge of the Year” award in 2013.

I was appointed to the BC Law Institute Board of Directors effective August 1, 2013 for a three year term.  I took a number of courses in Alternate Dispute Resolution from the Justice Institute and CLE in 2012 and 2013.

In September 2013, I joined Clark Wilson as associate counsel. My practice is limited to mediations, arbitrations, and evaluations. I have just been approved as a mediator on the civil roster by  the Mediate BC Society.

Since 1988, I have frequently participated in educational seminars for the National Judicial Institute, the Canadian Bar Association, Continuing Legal Education, and the Trial Lawyers Association, on topics including wills and estates, family law, civil procedure, fiduciary obligations, personal injuries, and elder law.
